As of the latest update of 1-25-21, of the ticks collected, Illinois is at an average of 43% positive for Lyme Disease. But even in high-risk regions, the chance of contracting Lyme disease from a tick bite is 1% to 3.

Lyme Disease Diagnosis. A new study by CDC researchers maps the distribution of Lyme disease spirochetes, Borrelia burgdorferi sensu stricto and Borrelia mayonii, in host-seeking blacklegged ticks (Ixodes scapularis, in the eastern U.S.) or western blacklegged ticks (I pacificus, in the western U.S.), relative to the previously reported distribution of these vector species.
